Judging Criteria:

 

There will be 2 judges for all classes. 

Each judge's score will appear on a board, and the scores will be averaged. 

If the trick is not attempted then no marks will be awarded. 

Fall of either horse or rider - no marks will be awarded.

The judge's decision is final.

There will be a random draw for order of go for the competitors for the Compulsory Tricks. 

The draw will be seeded (ie lowest score to start first) for the Freestyle.

The same horse must be used for the Compulsory and the Freestyle tricks.

Juniors & Seniors may ride the same horse.

A horse may compete once in each section.

Riders may enter only once.

 

 

 

Judging for the Compulsory:

 

There are 4 tricks in the compulsory:

1st trick:  Horizontal Layover (balance)

2nd trick: Reverse Fender (drag)

3rd trick: Spritz (balance)

4th trick: Hippodrome (strap)

Each trick will be awarded a score out of 40 as follows:

Technical Correctness of the trick, the length that the trick is held (how long the rider stays in the trick) - 10 points

Transitions into and out of the trick - smoothness - 10 points

Horsemanship - how the horse travels, the speed of the horse, the rider's ability to control the horse - 10 points

Showmanship - Costume, presentation of gear and horse, the way the rider acknowledges the crowd - 10 points.

 

JUDGING CRITERIA - FREESTYLE SECTION:

 

There are 4 runs in the Freestlye:

Competitors can choose a single trick, or a combination of tricks per run.

The points awarded for freestyle will be as above, with the addition of 10 points for degree of difficulty.  (Your freestyle trick list must be presented to the Judges at the Rider's Briefing 9.00am on  the morning of Friday 22nd outside the lecture theatre between stable block C & D).

Total Points:  50.

The AUSTRALIAN EXTREME WOMEN'S TRICK RIDING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010 TITLE will be awarded to the competitor with the highest aggregate score from the compulsory and the freestyle classes.

 

 

GENERAL JUDGING -

SOME OF THE CRITERIA THE JUDGES WILL BE LOOKING FOR:

 

a) Arena awareness and management/placement of the horses' run and the routine's beginning and completion of the trick before the run ends.

b) Holding tricks through the corner of the arena.

c) Pressing balance/strap tricks to the edge of the extreme.

d) The speed in which a rider enters and exits a trick.

e) Demonstrating exceptional showmanship, grace, and presence including pointed toes, smile, flexibility and strength.

f) Demonstrating an above average amount of lift and speed during vaulting and ground-work routines.

g) Adding a degree of difficulty to the Freestyle by incorporating combination tricks and performing on the corner of the arena.

h) The speed in which transitions between tricks are performed in the freestyle.

 

 

SOME OF THE CRITERIA WHICH WILL LOSE POINTS:

 

i) Falling off the horse 

j) Break in form during trick, falling out of a trick

k) Not performing the entire circle of the arena

l) Restricting one's horse in any manner including limiting or rating it's speed.

m) Poor arena management - rushing or not completing a trick before the horse stops.

n) Strap tricks are allowed to begin a run with the competitor's feet in the straps and or partially in the trick.  Points will be lost for all other tricks started prior to the run.

o) Ground Assistance at the start of the run - if ground assistance goes too far up the run it may be penalised.  (approx 10 m assistance is allowable)

p) Hanging or hesitating for extended periods of time during transitions or ground work (vaulting). 

q) Not completing your Freestyle tricks as described to the judges.

 

 

COMPULSORY GEAR/SAFETY CHECK AND COMPETITOR'S BRIEFING:

 

GEAR:

 

1) Saddles must be specific to trick riding and/or cossack riding.

2) Soft soled boots must be worn. (ie boxing or martial arts boots)

3) Safety Helmets are optional. Whether a competitor decides to wear a safety helmet or not - there will be no difference in the judge's scores.  Competitors can choose to wear safety helmets for some tricks and not for others - it is at the competitor's discretion.

4) The same horse must be used for both compulsory & freestyle.

5) Each competitor is allowed one ground assistant in the arena during the competition.    Ground assistance is allowable to help the horse out of the station for strap tricks.

6)There will be a gear/safety check of all competitors & their horses on Wednesday afternoon (time will be advised to all competitors).  Competitors are required to turn up the the safety check in their costumes with their horses saddled with all the equipment that they will be using in the competition. 

The organizers & judges will hold a competitor's briefing at 9.00am on Friday morning the 22nd October outside the lecture theatre (between stable blocks C & D) It is compulsory to attend.  

The freestyle tricks that the comptitor indends to do must be given in writing to the judges at this time.

As this is the 2nd year that a Trick Riding Competition has been held, we do anticipate some initial difficulties, which we, as organizers are committed to solving.

Code of Conduct/Conditions of Entry:

 

This a drug  & alcohol free sport.  Please make sure that you adhere to this. Any competitor found to be under the infulence whilst on a horse will be disqualified immediately.

The Event(s) organizers reserve the right at their absolute discretion to alter or amend any of the conditions, regulations, or any aspect of the event as they see fit.

 

All riders competing in the event will be expected to have read and accepted the conditions of entry and have accepted the disclaimer form or their entries will not be accepted.
